Mackinac Arts Council
Mackinac is a popular artist destination and home to many talented artists. Founded in 2002, the Mackinac Arts Council (MAC) hosts many outstanding arts-related events each summer. Workshops, symposia, exhibitions, and related events round out the council's calendar of events throughout the summer months.
The Mackinac Arts Council began as a vision of Becki Barnwell, a life-time Island resident, painter and art enthusiast. She realized that she wanted to give something back to Mackinac that would outlast her current contributions. She felt if she could bring more cultural experiences to the Island to enhance the arts experience for visitors and residents alike while providing an even greater sense of community among its diverse members, that is would be a success. At a meeting with, residents, business owners, local government and church officials, all confirmed the need for an organization on Mackinac to encourage more arts and cultural events.
As a non-profit entity, the Mackinac Arts Council is always looking for support in the form of donations—financial, artistic or simply volunteer time. Among the offerings by the arts council is music in the schools, summer art programs, concert series and the annual Mackinac Island Music Festival.
