French Canadian explorer Louis Gideon Metivier Jr.and his new bride, the former Sophia Granger of Acadia booked passage on a sailing vessel down the St. Lawrence River to Lake Ontario. By horse drawn wagon, they travel north to Georgian Bay and sailed into Lake Huron's Haldimand Bay landing at Mackinac Island.
