Imagine snow falling, peaceful walks in the woods, great meals and time spent with friends and family and rockin’ parties in the pubs downtown….that is a Mackinac Island New Year’s Eve.

Getting Here:

Great Lakes Air provides air service from Mackinac County Airport in St. Ignace. They will arrange a horse-drawn taxi to take you to your hotel if you need it as well.
Call (906) 643-7165 for flight schedule or after hours service.  The cost each way from Saint Ignace to Mackinac Island is $28.00 per person each way, children 12 and under are half price – 3 and under are free as are dogs.

Getting Around:

Mackinac Island Taxi offers horse-drawn taxi service by reservation, call (906) 847-3323. Please note, any taxi service after 5pm or before 8am must be called in by 3pm each day due to limited drivers and much lighter schedules this time of year. It is imperative to make reservations before 3pm daily for any evening activities to ensure timely service.

The Islander’s year ’round hangout. Full bar featuring canned & draught beers, serving steaks, whitefish, traditional bar grub, burgers, dogs, wings, sandwiches, pizza, fries, rings, ‘shrooms and an array of great fried munchies.

A special New Year’s Eve menu with be served along with pub fare. Live entertainment. Dinner reservations are highly encouraged. Located downtown on Astor Street. Take out food and beer as well.

Great Turtle Drop
The Innkeepers at the Cottage Inn dreamed up the Great Turtle Drop as Mackinac Island’s version of Times Square and it was so well received that they are lighting up their turtle again this year. The drop takes place on Main Street at the Christmas Tree around midnight.

Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing
Cross Country skis are available for rent from Cawthorne’s Village Inn. The Mackinac Island Ski club grooms trails on the east and north side of the Island in Mackinac Island State Park.

New Year’s Eve Hayrides
Hayrides will also be available during New Year’s Eve day and includes complimentary hot chocolate, warm apple cider and coffee. Sign up at Cawthorne’s Village Inn or call for reservations 906-847-3542 (definitely recommended).
