Films
Mackinac Island has been the subject of two high visibility films: in 1946, after World War II, MGM filmed a romantic tale of lost and found love called, This Time for Keeps starring the famous swimmer Esther Williams and Jimmy Durante.
Somewhere in Time
In 1979 the Grand was again the setting for a romantic fantasy titled Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Each fall the hotel hosts a reunion weekend of fans enchanted by the movie. Grand Hotel and Murray Hotel shows the film for their guests throughout the season.
Cinema
Movies at the Mission feature first run films at the Mission Point Resort Theater each Monday during peak season. Tickets are sold at the Tourism Bureau booth at a discounted rate $5 adults, $2 children 5-12 until 4:30pm the day of the show. Tickets are always available at full price at the door, $6 adults, $3 children 5-12. Refreshments are available. Movies begin at 9pm unless otherwise noted.
In room movies
Most properties offer cable television and several of the Island
hotels offer complimentary or rental DVDs for use in your room.
Additionally,a good selection of rental DVDs may be found at
the Mackinac Island Public Library and the Harrisonville General
Store.
