Mackinac Island Lilac Festival Theme 2008
The Saturday Morning Cartoon is the term for all American animated television programming scheduled on Saturday mornings from the 1960s to the 1990s and is often referred to by its critics as "illustrated radio" because of its focus on voice, music and sound effects.
By the late 1970's, the networks were encouraged to create educational spots that endeavored to use animation for enriching content. Far and away the most successful effort was the Schoolhouse Rock series on ABC, w
hich became a television classic.
