John Barr
John Barr has pursued parallel careers in business and poetry. A poet since his undergraduate days, he has published many collections of his own work including Hundred Fathom Curve and Grace. In 2004 he became the first president of The Poetry Foundation in Chicago which publishes Poetry Magazine and operates a variety of poetry programs funded by $200 million gift from Ruth Lilly. An investment banker for more than 30 years, he was a managing director at Morgan Stanley and founded several businesses including Dynergy, one of the largest energy trading companies in the world.
John will read from his most recent books and will share new unpublished work as well. John, Penny and their children Nate, Chris and Jenny have been summer residents of Mackinac Island since 1990.

James P. Lenfesty
Jim Lenfesty is a writer based in Minneapolis and Mackinac Island. After a career in academia, advertising and journalism as an editorial writer at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, where he won several Page One awards for excellence, he has published poetry, reviews and articles plus a book of personal essays, The Urban Coyote: Howlings on a Family, Community and The Search for Peace and Quiet.
He is founder of the Ojai Poetry Festival in Ojai, CA, chairs the Literary Witnesses Poetry Series in Minneapolis and teaches at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. |
Rev. Dr. Vincent W. Carroll
Rev. Dr. Vincent W. Carroll, a retired Navy Chaplain is pastor of Little Stone Church. Interest in fiction and poetry began as an undergraduate at the University of Iowa's Writers Workshop Program. In 2005 he published Biblical Characters with an Attitude which is being widely used in numerous church and educational venues.
In 2007, Dr. Carroll published a second book titles Poems from DaNang chronicling the last events of the Vietnam War. In these poems, Dr. Carroll's insights as a combat chaplain with the Third Marine Division probe the depths of the heart.
In this final presentation of Little Stone Church Poetry Festival. Dr. Carroll will be accompanied by organist Rachelle Deresti in musically dramatizing selections of Poems from Da Nang. |
