Island Scrimshander
Scrimshaw, a 19th Century maritime art of carving on bone or ivory, is still handcrafted today on Mackinac Island by artist Gary Kiracofe. The Island Scrimshander is open from Mother's Day through October, seven days a week and displays scrimshaw by Gary, his brother Brian, as well as other artists from around the country. The recipient of numerous juried awards, Maeve Croghan's paintings are shown and collected throughout the country.
