A Landmark Location
Like many of the hotels on Mackinac Island, Lake View Hotel originated in the mid-1800s, initially operating under the Chapman family as Lake View House. The establishment remained in the family’s hands for over a century, until it was purchased by Harry Ryba of Ryba’s Fudge Shops. After this change of ownership, Lake View Hotel underwent a number of renovations and expansions, which brought it closer to its grand modern state. In 1992, ownership was transferred to a private corporation under the careful guidance of CEO Mr. Ira Green, a long-time Mackinac Island businessman. Lake View Hotel is routinely updated to serve the needs of today's guests, while its Victorian architecture continues to offer classic appeal.

A Hotel With History
In 1822, Magdelaine LaFramboise, a noted fur trader, retired to Mackinac Island after a long and prosperous career. She became a prominent resident, entertaining numerous guests and making philanthropic donations – including land to St. Anne Catholic Church, which neighbors the Inn. Chateau LaFramboise, the manor built for Magdelaine, now serves as the Harbour View Inn’s main building.
At Harbour View Inn, you can choose between a variety of room styles. If you’re looking for a room that’s charming and quaint, consider the Inn’s Cottage Rooms, which include a queen bed and a private bathroom. Situated in The Cottage, which is adjacent to the Inn’s main house, these rooms deliver a stunning view of either the Island’s harbor or the surrounding grounds.
If you’d like to enhance your trip, choose a Garden View Room. These luxurious chambers are available with a queen bed, a king bed or two queen beds, and each room delivers a view of the Inn’s gardens. For added convenience, Garden View 2-Queen Rooms come with air-conditioning, making them a go-to choice during the summer months.

There is no experience quite as unique as Mackinac Island. One begins stepping back in time at the first glimpse from the ferry of historic buildings while rounding Biddle Point. When emerging onto Main Street, history unfolds while horse drawn carriages pass by and the preferred method of travel is a bicycle.
Pine Cottage is located on historic Bogan Lane, which sits quietly away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street, but is merely a short stroll from shopping, restaurants, bicycle rentals, ferry docks, and a glistening harbor that maintains extraordinary views of Lake Huron.
For those who seek an authentic and cozy experience, much like famed guests Ty Cobb and Ernest Hemingway, Pine Cottage Bed and Breakfast awaits. Originally built as a private residence in 1870, Pine Cottage Bed and Breakfast brings guests of Mackinac back to a simpler, more charming time. At first sight, Pine Cottage invites you in with it's wrap-around porch and rocking chairs, ideal for quiet and reflective moments.
After stepping inside, it is easy to appreciate Pine Cottage’s quaint charm. It’s no wonder guests have escaped to this quiet retreat since the early 20th century. The ambiance easily allows one to envision Victorian era women in sweeping gowns and men in coats and hats, stepping off steamships in the harbor, boarding a carriage, and making their way up the lane, taking tea on the porch or reading in the parlor as Pine Cottage guests.
You’ll find old warm charm with hints of antique furniture, steam radiators and claw foot tubs, original to the hotel. The scent of lilacs blooming in June will waft through your open windows and you’ll wake peacefully in the morning to a rhythmic “clip clop” of horses clambering past.
Join us downstairs for a well-prepared and delightful breakfast. While modern comforts are available to enhance your stay, you will truly appreciate the nostalgic feel of everything Pine Cottage presents, providing you with a lasting and memorable Mackinac Island experience.
