A great way to get around the Island is by renting a bicycle. Many like to rent Burley carts with bicycles as they are especially helpful to families with small children and for photographers and filmmakers who are bringing alot of gear. Horse-Drawn Taxi Service
Horse-drawn taxis are a way of life on Mackinac Island and a fun way to get from place to place. The taxis are radio dispatched and can be summoned by calling (906) 847-3323, by using the courtesy phone located at the Taxi Office downtown, from the courtesy phone at the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau or by asking the front desk staff or bartenders to order one up for you and yours. The island is divided into several zones; downtown, Fort Mackinac, Stonecliffe area and other points further from town with pricing according to distance. Rates start at $4.75 per person each way.
Mackinac Island is very walkable. Many enjoy strolling the on Main Street and Market Street which encompasses about 5 city blocks. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk up to Grand Hotel or on the lake shore to Mission Point Resort. The circumference of the Island is 8.2 level miles and generally takes about 3.5 hours to circumnavigate. For those that want a quicker solution, renting bicycles or a Drive Your Own Buggy are both an ideal solution to view the shoreline trail.
