For some, spring’s excitement doesn’t surround blooming flowers but rather swinging golf clubs. That’s right, it’s finally time to get those clubs out of the basement and into the trunk of your car because golfing season is officially here. Michigan is full of devout golfers who endure winter away from all the state’s wonderful golf courses. Heck, once the temperature hits 50 we’re sure many of you are out there on the links. Mackinac Island is another thing that comes to many minds when spring arrives. The horses return and the Island starts to bustle in anticipation of the upcoming season. Spring is a good time to be a fan of golf and Mackinac Island: now let those passions converge and start thinking about some Mackinac Island tee times for this year. That’s right, if you’ve visited before and never brought the clubs along for the trip, we strongly recommend to bring them along this time. And if you’re an avid golfer coming to Mackinac Island for the first time, you too should pack the clubs. Mackinac Island's Golf Courses

While horses, bike riding and Arch Rock garner a lot of visitor attention, Mackinac Island's golf courses are every bit as incredible.
  • Grand Hotel’s golf course, The Jewel, is one of the most unique courses not only in Michigan but across the country. The course comprises picturesque beauty, lush landscaping, and meticulously manicured tees, fairways, and greens, which all contribute to a Grand golf experience. The course even received accolades from Golf Digest as an Editor’s Best Choice. The Jewel is split into two nine-hole courses, with the front nine located across from the hotel with memorable views of the Straits of Mackinac. The back nine is in the Island’s interior with views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Upper Peninsula. And how do you get from one to the other? A horse-drawn carriage ride – now that’s unique! This 15-minute ride even provides you glimpses of the Island most visitors never see.

  • Mackinac Island is also home to Wawashkamo Golf Club, a nine-hole links golf course. There are a couple fascinating tidbits with this course: it’s on the site of the 1814 Battle of Mackinac Island and is the oldest continuously played golf course in Michigan. The course features a relatively treeless layout, comparatively short holes, and deep rough - giving you an authentic experience of 19th century golf.

  • There’s also the Greens of Mackinac, an 18-hole putting course, located at Mission Point Resort. Whether you want to work on your putting or entertain the kids, this course offers a distinct putting experience. It’s a laidback atmosphere and adjacent to Bistro On The Greens so you can carry your beverages during your round and have an enjoyable lunch or dinner in this classic summer setting.
