Mackinac Island: A Golfer’s Delight
There are many great golf courses. But there’s only one where you take a scenic, mile-and-a-half horse-drawn carriage ride between nines. There’s only one designed by a two-time U.S. Open champion and built atop an 1814 battlefield. And there’s only one that’s a putting course with natural-grass greens nestled along the expansive blue beauty of the Straits of Mackinac. There’s only one Mackinac Island, and fortunately it’s home to four one-of-a-kind golf courses you can play.
Island Experiences You Will Love
Enjoy The Jewel
The immaculate resort course at Grand Hotel features breathtaking views of Lake Huron on the original Grand nine that dates to 1901, and striking vistas of the Mackinac Bridge on the newer Woods nine up in the island’s interior. To get from one to the other, it’s a relaxing 15-minute horse-drawn carriage ride!
Experience Wawa
From the “circus ring” of high grass around one green to “chocolate drops” of old stones along one fairway, historic Wawashkamo Golf Club looks and feels a lot like it did when it opened in 1898. The 9-hole links built on a War of 1812 battlefield is the oldest continuously played course in all of Michigan.
Golf After Dark
From a fun family outing in the afternoon to a romantic date night after dark, the Greens of Mackinac putting course is a unique experience. All 18 holes are natural grass along the waterfront by the Great Lawn at Mission Point Resort, with glow-in-the-dark balls for play after sunset.
Play Putt-Putt
Part of the Woodlands Activity Center at Grand Hotel, The Gem is a traditional 18-hole miniature golf woven seamlessly into the resort’s majestic grounds. The course is open to hotel guests and non-guests alike and is fun for all ages and skill levels.
A Diverse Golf Destination
Whether you’re a purist who longs to golf the old-fashioned way or an average hack who appreciates a finely manicured resort course with spectacular views, Mackinac Island is the place to play for you. The same is true whether you prefer an outing with the gang, a family round of mini-golf or even a fun date night on a putting course with glow-in-the-dark balls. There are lots of golf destinations, but none with the variety of Mackinac Island’s one-of-a-kind collection of courses that offers a distinctive mix of historic charm, natural beauty and memorable golf. Load your sticks on the ferry and come play!
