Well, the visitor season on Mackinac Island comes to a close at the end of October. Cue sad faces all around.
But, wait, here’s something to turn that frown upside down: A new flavor of world-famous Mackinac Island fudge for the upcoming holiday season!
Starting Nov. 1, Ryba’s Fudge Shops will unveil Mitten Made Mint. The limited-edition flavor is part of the Pure Michigan Mackinac Island Fudge Collection, a collaboration between Ryba’s, the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau and Pure Michigan, the state’s travel brand. The idea is to showcase locally sourced ingredients that infuse iconic Michigan flavors into Mackinac Island’s world-famous fudge.
What is Mitten Made Mint and Where to Get It
Mitten Made Mint is a mix of vanilla and mint grown in St. Johns, right in the heart of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The idea behind it is to create a taste that makes you think of gentle snowfall, frozen lakes and the magic of a Michigan winter.
Although the Mackinac Island visitor season is over in November and December, you can order a few slices of fudge online and have this new flavor sent straight to your door.
Mitten Made Mint is the fourth and final limited-edition flavor in this year’s Pure Michigan partnership with Ryba’s. Other flavors made earlier in 2025 include Sweet Maple Waffle in the spring, Great Lakes Turtle Twist in the summer and Pumpkin Spice Delight in the fall. Michigan ingredients in those fudge flavors included maple syrup, beet sugar, pumpkins and more.
Several fudge shops also created a new concoction this year for the inaugural Mackinac Island Fall Fudge Festival. The flavor was inspired by a Fudge Naming Contest that attracted more than 1,000 entries. The winning name was Mackinac Magic!
Mackinac Island Fudge For The Holidays
While Ryba’s is the only shop where you can get Mitten Made Mint, you can order other seasonal flavors online from other Mackinac Island fudge shops including Joann’s Fudge and The Original Murdick’s Fudge. In fact, Joann’s keeps making fudge on Mackinac Island all winter long, so if you happen to visit Mackinac Island during the offseason – perhaps between Christmas and New Year’s – you can pop into the storefront and pick up a slice or two in person.
Seasonal flavors to enjoy during the holidays include Double Dark Chocolate Mint, German Chocolate, Chocolate Walnut, Holiday Cranberry and many, many others.
