Mackinac Island is celebrating our 73rd Annual Lilac Festival, June 4 -13, 2021. It’s the first and largest summer event on the Island, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the country. Festivities for the 10-day festival include the coronation of the Lilac Festival Queen, Court and Princess, daily walking tours with Lilac Expert Jeff Young, Lilac Festival Run/Walk, Michigan Cornhole Tournament, and much more.
We know this event is beloved by so many and and are excited to feature a hybrid of in-person and virtual events. The health and safety of the Island community, employees, and guests is our priority and we look forward to host this event!
Please view the list of Frequently Asked Questions below.
IS THE LILAC FESTIVAL HAPPENING THIS YEAR?
Yes! The Lilac Festival is still set for June 4-13. However, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s West Michigan Bootscooter Dance, Mackin-Paw Dog Day, and the Grand Stationary Parade.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS YEAR’S LILAC FESTIVAL?
We are committed to hosting a safe Lilac Festival and are moving forward with the Lilac Queen Coronation, Lilac Festival poster reveal, Michigan Cornhole, Lilac Book launch, and walking tours and planting sessions with lilac expert Jeff Young. There are also various activities throughout the 10 days still planned at our Island businesses. Click here to see the most up to date schedule of events and be sure to check back for updates.
ANY CHANGES WITH THE LILAC TOURS OR PLANTING SESSIONS?
Lilac tours and planting sessions are free and open to everyone. We ask that participants keep a safe distance from other parties and wear masks when they can’t safely socially distance. Please see the schedule of events for locations and times.
ARE YOU PLANNING ON ANY VIRTUAL EVENTS?
Yes! We have started the planning process of a few virtual event ideas. We haven’t confirmed anything yet but will post here, on our social channels, and to our e-newsletter when we have an update.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF SOMETHING CHANGES OR THE LILAC FESTIVAL GETS CANCELLED?
We continue to monitor Covid-19 cases and follow federal, state, and local guidelines. We will continue to post updates on this webpage, our social media channels, and our e-newsletter list. Please continue to check those sources or give us a call at 906-847-3783 as the event gets closer. We are sorry for the inconvenience but are grateful for your understanding.
WHAT’S THE WEATHER GOING TO BE LIKE?
It is hard to say for sure but in June, it begins to warm up on Mackinac Island. Average temperature is mid 60’s so be sure to pack layers, especially for the mornings, evenings, and ferry ride over!
WHEN WILL THE POSTER CONTEST WINNER BE ANNOUNCED?
This year’s poster winner will be announced at the Lilac Queen coronation and poster reveal on Friday, June 4th starting at 5:00 pm in Marquette Park.
WHAT ARE THE LATEST COVID-19 UPDATES?
Visit our travel advisory page for the latest updates on Covid-19.
